The rich and the famous prided themselves in the elegant creations they wore. White gold was used in many styles of jewelry at this time. Platinum was used also as an option to gold.

The gold used in jewelry making today is usually 10k or 14k yellow or white gold. Jewelry made in countries like India is more likely to be made from 18k or 21k gold, which is softer than 10k or 14k.

The diamonds used in gold jewelry creations can vary a great deal in quality and price. It is common today for those wanting gold jewelry with diamond embellishments to have fake or laboratory produced diamonds instead of real ones when cost is a factor.

The sought after glamour of a gold and diamond piece of jewelry can be achieved, even if the diamonds may not be what is considered real.
