Procedures for Hair Removal

The market for hair removal products offers a wide array of options for todays consumer. There has been several advances in the field, even some products for the home that offer the latest in technological advances. Although some of the home products have improved greatly, it is still recommended that you seek a professional regarding hair removal. There are also procedures that can be used to make hair less noticeable, if you are not interested in full blown removal.
Laser hair removal can be done practically anywhere on the body. Many people have hair in areas where they would like to have it removed. The problem is choosing the product or procedure that is right for you.

The first procedure we should look at is not actually removal of the hair, this procedure is known as bleaching. This is an option for anyone who may have a skin tone that will help to blend the bleached color of the hair into their natural skin color. This does not remove the hair, but it does help to make it less visible.

Waxing is also an option. This procedure involves applying hot wax to the skin and then removing it after it cools. when the wax cools it attaches itself to the hair. when removed it pulls the hair out. This can be painful, but it is effective.

A process known as sugaring has also grown in popularity. It is very similar to waxing except it does not require the high amount of heat that waxing uses. Also it does not stick to the skin. It is somewhat less painful

A permanent solution to unwanted hair is laser hair removal. This process eliminates the hair from ever re-growing from the follicle. Because it is permanent, it is growing faster than any other procedure…CONTINUE

Relax, Your Hair is Really not Catatonic

If you are a woman and have experienced baldness, you know how psychologically damaging this can be. Female pattern baldness usually involves a typical pattern of hair loss with a genetic predisposition, aging and hormones. Alopecia in women is not as common as it is in men. Hair grows at an average rate of about a half an inch per month. Hair grows for two to six years and then goes into a state of rest and eventually falls out. Hair regrowth soon begins after the old falls out, so at any one time about 85% of the hair is growing and 15% is resting.

Baldness in women occurs when hair does not grow back into place. Female pattern baldness is not well understood, but it is associated with aging and genetic predisposition. Also, the levels of endocrine hormones, particularly ones called androgens which are male sex hormones, have a key role to play. Changes in androgens actually affect hair production. After menopause, many women find that thinning hair is common and their facial hair is more coarse. Even though new hair is not produced, follicles remain alive and this suggests the possibility of new hair growth.

Female pattern baldness is different from male pattern baldness in the following ways. The frontal hairline usually remains intact from where it basically fans all over the head. Hair loss on the crown may be moderate, but this rarely progresses to total or near baldness as it does in men. Women can have a temporary shedding of hair called telogen effluvium. Some can have alopecia areata which is an immune disorder, or hair loss can be a result of certain medications and skin diseases. Alopecia areata in women usually starts out with patchy hair loss and can progress into more severe hair loss over time, if not treated properly.

Facts for Men and Women Experiencing Hair Loss

Hair plays an important role in most peoples overall appearance. Hair, teeth, and nails are all admired and emulated as a sign of beauty in our society. Unfortunately, when we see signs of appearance slipping, we are devastated. As men and women, we have to realize that sometimes these things are out of our control. Hair loss does NOT imply that were slipping or aging poorly. Instead, hair loss can be caused by a hereditary trait, a hormonal imbalance, stress, a reaction to medication, or a symptom of sickness.

If youre concerned about your hair loss, you should contact your family physician. He/she may suggest a blood test and/or refer you to a dermatologist. A doctor can diagnose the cause of your condition through blood testing, history, and categorization.

Get the facts. The most common types of hair loss include:

Alopecia Areata: this condition is characterized by the loss of hair, which results in hairless, round patches on the scalp. In extreme cases, this condition may cause the complete loss of body hair. It is commonly found in people under the age of thirty.

Androgenetic Alopecia: this condition has been coined pattern baldness. Its common is men and women over the age of forty and affects both men and women differently. Men tend to experience a receding/thinning front hairline. In women, this condition may result in thinning to the top of the scalp. Typically, the front hairline is preserved.

Telogen effluvium: Also known as resting hair loss, can be a little trickier to diagnose as it doesnt effect one particular area of the scalp. Men and women who experience diffuse hair loss quite commonly experience this condition. It occurs often after childbirth, surgery, infection, and can accompany autoimmune diseases.

Did you know that hair products can cause hair loss? Its true.

  • Men and women who wear tight ponytails and braids on a regular basis are prone to receding hairlines and thin hair.
  • Use of heavy styling products, including sprays, hairs, and gels (which contain alcohol) weather the hair and promote breakage.
  • Hair perms and dyes dry the hair and cause breakage.
  • Hair Loss in hair stylists is exceptionally high as they tend to use an excessive amount of cosmetic hair products.
  • Today, theres a number of treatments available to men and women experiencing balding and/or hair loss. You name it, its available. Topical creams, oral medications, injections of cortisone, scalp reductions, and hair transplants are all accessible to the man and women who wish to change their appearance.

Nevertheless, what works for one person may not work for another. Consult with your physician to see which option (if any) would suit your condition.

    Genetic Hair Loss

Although genetic hair loss can seem like a curse, it isnt. Its inherited from ones family and is passed down through the generations. You may experience male pattern baldness at the age of twenty-seven, but your twin brother may not! Its very strange how the gene travels through the family. But the fact remains: it does. Genetic hair loss appears predominately in men, but may also appear in a few select women.

This type of hair loss is inherited through the genetics of genes of ones mother. With genetic hair loss the reason for balding is not hair falling out but the bodys inability to produce more hair. This is due to the hair follicles going through their normal 25 cycles within a very short time period. This causes the follicles to stop producing hairs much earlier than normal.

The reason that this is referred to as pattern baldness is that the balding takes on a distinctive pattern. Men may notice first a receding hair line and then slowly large patches of baldness, as the hair around the crown of the head thins. Normally, the remaining hair can be found on the sides of the head. Females, on the other hand, bald differently with genetic hair loss. A womans hair will thin progressively all over the scalp. Eventually this will lead to baldness.

It appears that even genetic hair loss is in some way influenced by the hormone testosterone. This is because it has been found to be true that men who do not produce testosterone do not experience genetic hair loss. As per the females who experience pattern baldness, most of the women experience thinning hair after menopause. Perhaps this is because their estrogen level has fallen, leaving them more susceptible to the effects of testosterone.

It is important to mention that not all hair loss or thinning hair is an indication of genetic hair loss. Indeed normal thinning does occur with age, however this slight thinning is barely noticeable and does not cause bald patches. Therefore, one should not worry simply because they are losing a few more hairs daily, but should be concerned if they begin to notice thin or bald spaces.

This type of balding is best treated through surgery. Though the best solution is hair restoration surgery, it can be costly. For the male who can not afford this, hair plugs are an affordable alternative.

Genetic hair loss is possibly the most devastating form of hair loss because it is permanent and can cause total balding. It is also quite noticeable; however with todays medical procedures one with this condition can live a normal life free from ridicule.

Hair Loss caused by Lichen Planus

There are several factors that can result in hair loss. One common disease is a disorder known as lichen planus. This particular disease is not in itself a direct cause but it is an important trigger and often causes complications with the scalp and can lead to this problem.

Lichen planus is more of a skin disorder that also affects other areas of the body. Thus, it can not only affect the skin and body, but also the scalp. When the scalp is affected, hair loss is experienced. Licen phanus is usually considered to be an allergic reaction and is often associated with a poor immune system. Some believe that lichen planus is triggered from excessive stress. Stress weakens the bodys immune system and render it susceptible to infection and other health symptoms such as hair loss. The chances of getting another lichen planus attack rise with the first affliction, even with treatment and prevention measures.

Lichen planus is most identifiable by the changes in the skin that occur. There will be itching in certain areas of the skin, as well as skin lesions that will appear in a variety of places. The skin lesions will have a variety of attributes related to their shape, size and color, all which will help you in identifying the disorder. There may also be nail abnormalities, such as ridges in the nails that begin to appear. The skin lesions will then begin to move into the mouth area and cause your mouth to feel dry. From here, lichen planus will begin to show on the scalp area and hair will be lost from the irritation from the scalp area.

Once you notice these symptoms, do not wait too long to treat the lichen planus. In most cases, the symptoms are not severe enough and will simply go away over time. However, there is also the possibility of the symptoms become full blown and it will be more difficult to treat at that point in time.

For treatment, you can take prescribed medications. Antihistamines are useful in helping to treat lichen planus. Vitamin A in the form of ointments and creams are also considered to be effective. It can be expected that this disorder will disappear after a few months or after a longer amount of time. Also, ensure a healthy diet and lifestyle to boost your immune system.

What You Should Know About Laser Hair Removal

Laser hair removal has seen a huge increase in popularity in recent years, mainly because it is a relatively safe way to remove unwanted body hair. Until recently, it was best for those with light skin and dark hair. But with the advent of the new YAG laser line and the reinvention of the IPL, even those with darker skin and hair can get excellent results with laser hair removal.

Laser hair removal has become such a popular alternative to shaving, waxing and creams because unwanted hair is permanently removed or reduced with treatment. Plus it is a relatively painless procedure and the costs have decreased dramatically as the technology continues to improve.

If you are considering laser hair removal as an option, then you should definitely do some research, especially if you are a darker skinned individual, because the options vary by individual organization. Although the treatment does not normally take much time, it depends on the amount of hair you want removed, where you want it removed from, and the skin type. So it could take anywhere from a few minutes to a couple of hours.

Laser hair removal works by the use of a low energy laser that disables hair follicles. Typically, the laser is absorbed by the darker material, the hair, in fair skinned individuals. This disables the hair follicles, resulting in permanent hair removal or reduced hair growth. Recently, the procedure has been adapted for darker skinned individuals also.

If you opt for laser hair removal, you will most likely need multiple sessions because hair grows in cycles. This means that some of the hair that you want removed may not be in the growth phase during the time of your first treatment. Thus, it will need to be removed later once it is in the growth phase.

Though laser hair removal is relatively painless, you may experience a bit of discomfort from the procedure. Usually, the only discomfort is similar to mild sunburn, and you would treat it as such - using cool compresses and moisturizers. If there are any blisters, you should apply a topical antibiotic until they disappear. Also, your skin should be protected from the sun using sunblock for about 6 weeks after your laser hair removal treatment.

    Bald

Its weird how something can be considered fashionable by some people but unattractive by others. Baldness is one such example. While some might consider being bald to be sexy, others are repelled by it. Some men are bald by choice, but this is not true for all.

Baldness to some is an issue of much concern. In fact, in the beginning, most of the people just blow off the fact that they could be losing hair. But losing hair suddenly or in large clumps, especially after a wash, are common symptoms of baldness. Once over with the initial shock, you should prepare yourself to face the fact that you may never look the same.

Ninety-five percent of baldness in men is the result of male pattern baldness, which is the most common type of hair loss. Among women, the fear of hair loss, hair thinning and reduction in hair growth, especially after pregnancy, is also very common. Alopecia areata is another kind of baldness, in which bald spots suddenly become visible on the scalp. Although the hair generally grows back, it obviously results in much anxiety for the person suffering from it.

Phalacrophobia is the fear of becoming bald. This unique phobia may be interconnected to the fear of aging, or losing attractiveness and strength. The good news is, these days there are numerous treatments for hair loss and hence, less reason to worry. Slightly less expensive solutions include changing your hairstyle, or going in for hair weaving or hairpieces, or other changes.

Bald provides detailed information on Bald, Bald Heads, Bald Women, Bald Men and more. Bald is affiliated with Male Baldness.

    Stop Thinning Hair in Women

Hair that is in the process of becoming sparser is called thinning hair. Or in other words, the scalp is losing hair.

In the past, dealing with thinning hair was usually described as a male problem. However, today more and more women are at risk of suffering from thinning hair.

In the USA alone, 30 million women have thinning hair. But this number will only increase in the future four million more women will have thinning hair in the next ten years.

The problem becomes more serious as the population ages. By age 65, 48 percent of all women experience thinning hair. Hair thinning in women is more spread out over the area between the crown of the head and the bangs.

There are many causes of thinning hair in women. Some of them include genetic predisposition, health problems, medications, stress and trauma, poor diet, over processing your hair.

The best approach to stop thinning hair in women is to discover the source of the problem. Here are some general tips for reversing thinning hair:

    - Use hair care products particularly designed to add volume to your hair.

    - Use hair restorative shampoos and conditioners because they reduce the occurrence of thinning hair.

    - You can try permanent or semi-permanent color to give body and volume to your hair.

    - Avoid hair products that include alcohol.

    - Use styling products in moderation because too much will weigh your hair down.

    - Avoid long hair because it will only emphasize the thinning. Go for a short hair cut.
